Welcome to the Criminal Procedure Act 2009

The Criminal Procedure Act 2009 has been in operation for a few years now. While there continues to be interpretation and amendment of its provisions, the transition from the old legislation to the new has successfully been made, and a blog exclusively dedicated to the Act is no longer necessary.

If you're looking for a frequently updated blog on general legal matters in Victoria, have a look at Quis Custodes Ipsos Custodes? by the same authors.

Welcome aboard!

Now that the legislation has come into force, this site can really get rolling.

As you'd expect, it's still a work in progress. But at least most of the sections of the Criminal Procedure Act 2009 are now uploaded. (Austlii has really dropped the ball on this one. Their "consolidated" online CPA is still stuck at the 11 March 2009 version, without all the amendments that resulted from the enactment of the Criminal Procedure (Consequential Amendments and Transitional Provisions) Act 2009. That's the price they pay for having a largely automated data collection service).

Be sure to drop us a line with ways that you think the site can be improved.
